A few weeks ago we drove to Calgary and I was looking forward to the opportunity to photograph my favorite Alberta shelterbelt. I imagined a typical Alberta day of bright blue skies and sunshine, with the trees just breaking into the brilliant green leaf of spring. No such luck. (more…)

I have been correctly accused of a “dearth of blogging”, so I felt duty bound to post something. It’s good to have friends who will give me a kick in the pants when I need it. (more…)

Or the Alberta Association of Architects. Act I: We duly submitted our firm application a few weeks ago and it’s wending it’s way through the path it must take to official status. Until our application has been reviewed by council we are not an officially “registered” firm and so are trying to step lightly and ensure we breech no ethics inadvertently. Hence, while we are working away on the logo, business cards etc. we can’t actually publish or hand them out until the hurdles have been successfully leapt. It’s a bit frustrating, but we’ll wait as long as it takes to be authentic. In the meantime, there’s plenty of organization to be done and residences not falling under the auspices of the Architect’s act.

now what?

Week two already. Feels like we’ve been doing this forever already. We had a great collaborative session last night about the logo design. The 1st glass of wine was barely drunk and agreement had been reached. I still have small doubts about whether the design should really come from professional graphic designers, but economy wins out for now. I’ll post it here for comments when it’s ready so we at least aren’t too insular. Then again, it’s kind of like allowing people to comment on your choice of names for your children – inevitably there are those who think you’re nuts for even considering your selection. But, if my mandate is to be open to criticism and comment, I shouldn’t be reticent about the process. Hopefully it only makes shelterbelt better.
So, now what? Keep spreading the word and putting out the positive energy to bring the clients to us. So far, so good – residential projects are keeping us occupied between bank/accountant/computer store visits. I was positively giddy last week when I got to sketch – how delightful to design again!
