west business park

A few photos taken by Jenn + James – the site just happens to be near a driving range. Coincidence?  No.

Let’s remember how lovely it was “before”.

And after the application of metal siding.  A little cheerier, non?

 It’s a good example of how an existing building can be given new life with a little love and creativity.  The metal is an inexpensive and durable product that should allow the buildings to weather a lot more Edmonton winters gracefully.  I hope the tenants are happy with their revitalized place of work.  I only wish the budget had allowed for replacing the glazing – clear glass would liven up the interior too.

strathcona washrooms unshrouded

The yellow tarp is officially gone!  The glass is in and on a sunny day it’s pretty brilliant inside.  We sought transparency to provide security through visibility and I think that’s been achieved.  Not to worry – there are partition doors + walls that will provide privacy within the stalls – they just haven’t been installed yet.  A recent unauthorized visitor to the site let the contractor know that he and his friends would be quick to lob rocks at the glass, but I live in hope that the threat will not be carried out.  The building has been designed with an acknowledged likelihood of vandalism but the eternal optimist in me prefers to imagine a perfect world where it will remain unsullied by hooligans.  It’s devastating to invest so much care and attention to the design and realization of a building only to have it intentionally damaged.

The custom LED fixtures have been installed.  They practically disappear when they’re turned off.

Toilets are in (stainless steel prison grade for the aforementioned vandalism potential).

 Sunlight on the men’s side.

pivoting on the edge

The closet pivot door @ the Trapezoid house has returned to site from its vacation at the metal shop clad handsomely in a blackened steel tuxedo.  The remainder of the closet can now be clad, and then all will be cleaned up and finished with beeswax.

And now that the lift slide doors are in we can tuck them in their pockets to reveal the full 24 foot clear opening in all its glory.  The plastic sheeting from the painting looks disturbingly like swagged sheers….

let there be white

Painting of the interior of the trapezoid house is underway.  Between the lift slide glass installation + the paint, it’s a major transformation.

an office interior

Not quite finished but this tenant improvement in Manulife Place is complete enough for the tenant to start moving in.  Professional photos for the website are scheduled, but in the meantime, some amateur shots to fill in.  Heather says she’s over the green, but in this case the requirement to reuse existing furniture set the palette and the clients’ preferences overrulled.  The wood wall is rough sawn fir, clear coated.  Very Canadian…
